It is a satirical play by the Ukrainian-born Russian dramatist and novelist Nikolai Gogol. Originally published in 1836, revised for an 1842 edition. Based upon an anecdote allegedly recounted to Gogol by Alexander Pushkin. The play is a comedy of errors, satirizing human greed, stupidity, and the extensive political corruption of Imperial Russia.

Duration: 2 hours

Plot: Ivan Aleksandrovich Hlestakov, shallow low-rank official, with his valet Osip is passing through a small town in the county. Locked in bribes and embezzlement of public funds city ministers led by mayor takes him for an auditor who came incognito from Petersburg. Hlestakov enjoys the favorable situation, taking bribes, and flirting for mayor's wife and daughter at the same time. And today, comedy, created by the great Russian writer, continues to sound very modern.
